Hello. My name is Mr. Graham. I teach Algebra 2, Geometry, and Personal Finance at Roxborough High School. You are receiving this automated message because a failing grade was entered for your student in one of my math classes for the second quarter, Winter 2025.
Low academic performance could have several causes. The most common causes include:
- missing a recent quiz or test,
- poor performance on a recent quiz or test, and
- chronic tardiness or absenteeism resulting in regularly missed assignments.
All students throughout the School District of Philadelphia receive minimum grades of 50 on their report cards. Students whose grade fell between 50 and 59 this quarter received a failing grade.
If this is your student’s first failing grade of the school year, your student will need to achieve an average grade of 60.4 in the best case scenario, and 63.4 in the worst case scenario, across the other three marking periods in order to pass their math class for the year. If this is your student’s second failing grade of the school year, your student will need to achieve an average grade 61 in the best case scenario, and 70 in the worst case scenario, across the remaining two marking periods in order to pass their math class for the year.
Since the vast majority of students who fail do so with grades of 50, I would advise all parents, guardians, and students reading this message to prepare for the worst case scenario and aim for the higher grades in the remaining marking periods in order to secure a passing grade in their math class for the year.
Due to time constraints, I can not reach out individually to parents and guardians of all failing students. For specific details about your student’s academic performance please, I invite you to attend parent-teacher conferences at Roxborough High School this Thursday, January 30th, and Friday, January 31st. Conferences will be held over Zoom from 12:00pm to 2:34pm on Thursday afternoon, in person from 5:30pm to 7:30pm on Thursday evening, and again in person from 12:00pm to 2:34pm on Friday afternoon. See the flyer for more information.

I also invite you to log into the parent portal. Visit the following address to create a parent portal account through the PhilaSD.org web site:
